Butterscotch Blondies

Last weekend I ran a 5 mile race.  I never considered myself to be a runner, and I am by no means a fast runner.  But I ran this race at a much faster pace than my standard pace, and I was very proud of myself.

After the race I went to breakfast with my dear, sweet friends, who are constantly motivating and inspiring me, and we stopped at a Starbucks for coffees.  My friend convinced me that I had to try the smoked butterscotch latte.  I had been intrigued by this menu item, but had never been able to bring myself to try it.  I agreed that this was the morning to try it.  YOU GUYS. If you haven’t had this drink go to Starbucks right now and get it.  It is so good.

Chai Loaves

One of my favorite things in cold, snowy weather is chai.  It’s so comforting and warm and delicious!  I only started drinking coffee in recent years, so a chai was my coffee shop go-to for the longest time.  When we were first relocating to Boston and did not yet have internet in the apartment, I spent a lot of time at a local coffee shop in my neighborhood drinking chai after chai while working.  That coffee shop has the best chai: it’s so light and foamy and delicious! Fluff Festival

I’ve lived in Boston for about 2 years now, and I just recently discovered that Marshmallow Fluff was invented here! Well…Somerville to be exact.  And not only that, but there is an annual Fluff Festival, complete with a cooking contest!

Of course I had to enter, and I had so many flavor ideas! Eventually I settled on a sweet potato and maple bourbon dessert. The week before the recipe was due to the Festival, I got sick and knew I wasn’t going to be able to test recipes all week as planned.  I considered not entering the contest, but ended up submitting a recipe at the last minute.  I didn’t win, but I am so glad I didn’t bail on the contest, and I am thrilled with how this dessert turned out!  A little bit of southern and a little bit of Massachusetts: sweet potato cupcakes with a marshmallow ganache and maple bourbon marshmallow frosting!
