Even though hygge became trendy in the U.S. a few years back, my husband somehow just discovered it this year. And as soon as he discovered it, he decided 2018 is our year to fully embrace it! We bought some string lights during our holiday decoration shopping to hang on our exposed brick wall and we’ve decided to leave them up all year for the ambiance! I’ve also always been a candle person, but he’s way more into burning them now. We’re only two weeks in, but I’m loving it!
It is totally helping January feel less miserable. I’m currently curled up on the couch with my pillow, my pups, and a giant cozy comforter, writing this post by candlelight and I am feeling so good! I really suggest giving it a try! I mean, there is a reason that Denmark is consistently one of the happiest countries in the world. And it’s cold there, too!
Hot Cocoa Month is a total embracement of hygge! And one of the best ways to enjoy any sweet treat is with some saltiness added in. If you’ve tried my chocolate chip cookies, you know that the extra salt really makes the flavor perfect. There’s a reason the salted caramel trend hasn’t faded out…because it’s delicious! And then you add the chocolate flavor, and chocolate makes everything even better!
I used Dulce de Leche for the caramel, which was its own adventure. When I lived in Louisville, it was so easy to find at any neighborhood Kroger, but it’s much harder to find in Boston apparently. I ended up having to go out to a Wal-Mart in the suburbs to find it, so I stocked up! Hopefully you can easily find it wherever you are because this hot chocolate is so delicious!
So let me know, how do you embrace the concept of hygge?
