A bit about me and my baking journey:
I grew up in Louisville, KY, in a home where we hosted most every holiday. And we're Jewish so there are a lot of holidays! (This Kosher for Passover Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake is one of my most popular recipes!) My mom always welcomed anyone who wanted to join so we were always making the table longer and longer! And my mom always made every part of the meal. I would be in the kitchen with her for days leading up to the holiday helping prep and cook and bake.
And then I moved away
When I went off to college at Indiana (go Hoosiers!) and was living on my own for the first time, I was cooking on a more regular basis, but really found a love for baking. My absolute favorite things to make were chocolate chip cookies and these super fudgy brownies. I once avoided a snowball attack by promising to make some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cookies for a neighbor. I had no idea how I was going to keep this promise, but I came up with the idea of using a heart-shaped cookie cutter and first experimented with royal icing. This tiny moment ignited my creativity and made me realize how much you can do with baking above and beyond the basics.
Flour de Liz began
Before it became what it is today, Flour de Liz had a few iterations. For a brief moment I thought I may use it to sell baked goods from a home bakery. I then shifted into writing about my baking adventures, but I was making other people's recipes, inspired by Julie and Julia. This was my first introduction into the baking blogger community.
And then I really moved away
In 2015 my husband, Mike, and I, with our two dogs, Gizmo and Baxter, moved to Boston. We moved into a 400-square-foot apartment with a kitchen so small that the fridge could not open all the way because it would hit the counter on the opposite side of the kitchen. And we had one square of counterspace that we eventually had to use for a countertop dishwasher because the sink was so small that making one meal would completely overflow it! And forget about any kitchen storage! Our cabinets were so small that our dinner plates couldn't even fit in them!
This is when I really realized that baking blogs usually shared complicated and time-consuming recipes that needed a lot of kitchen equipment and a lot of ingredients. I didn't have the space or the patience or the equipment needed for so many of these recipes. So I remembered when my grandma mentioned that I should write a cookbook, and that inspired me to create super simple recipes and to share them here with you!
The first recipe
I always loved chocolate chip cookies. If there is a warm cookie on a dessert menu, I will always order it. But I also came to find that often times I liked the cookies I made at home better than those that I was getting at restaurants and bakeries. So in November of 2016, I started this blog by posting my Perfectly Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies. In the years that have passed, I've shared over 100 recipes, helping readers find joy in baking, and I test every recipe multiple times in my own kitchen using basic equipment to make sure anyone can make it! Readers often share that my recipes are easy to make, and are, of course, delicious!
And now...
I currently live with my husband, Mike, and my two dogs, Banjo and Maisie, just south of Boston in a slightly bigger apartment with a much bigger kitchen. Outside of the blog, I work full-time in the legal department of a non-profit, and I love reading, podcasts, traveling, watching TV, and all things pop culture!

More about Liz & Flour de Liz
When I first started the blog, back before it was a recipe blog, I was trying to come up with a fun name to use to sell baked goods out of my home kitchen. My aunt suggested Flour de Liz, a play on fleur de lis that had a fun baking twist and incorporated my name. I loved the suggestion, and it was especially perfect because the fleur de lis is the symbol of Louisville, where I'm originally from. It was a perfect fit, and over 10 years later I'm still so happy with it!
I knew that baking did not need to be intimidating! That's why I created Flour de Liz: to offer a no-pressure, supportive space where baking is about enjoying the process and celebrating your creations, not stressing over perfection. I truly believe that baking should be fun and inclusive. Whether you're just getting started or are short on time or space, there's no room for judgment here-only encouragement and support. Mistakes are part of the journey, and every bake is a chance to learn and grow.
There are so many delicious, simple, and approachable recipes, that you can start with any recipe that catches your eye! These Red Velvet Brownies with Cake Mix are a reader favorite and couldn't be easier. For cozy fall vibes, these Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls have just two ingredients and take no time at all (though they can be a tad messy!). These Peanut Butter Marshmallow Squares are one of my favorites and most all of my pies, like this Maple Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie, are super simple one-bowl fillings that you can just dump into a store-bought pie crust (it still counts, I promise!). And while I don't have many savory recipes, these Everything Muffins are ridiculously simple and incredibly delicious!
While I love baking for others, I currently only share my baked goods with friends and family. I don't offer any treats for sale at the moment.
This is a really hard question as I love so many, but I am generally drawn most to cookies and brownies. If I had to pick just one, I think I would pick this Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake - I make it for my birthday almost every year!
