Ingredients and notes
Heavy Cream - Any of heavy cream, whipping cream, or heavy whipping cream should work to whip up into a light and airy whipped dessert.
Nutella - Any chocolate hazelnut spread should work for this whipped chocolate recipe. I always keep Nutella stocked in my pantry so it's my go-to, but as I always say, use what works for you!
Substitutions
Heavy Cream - If you prefer to make this sweet chocolate recipe without heavy cream, there are dairy-free alternatives but Nutella is not dairy-free so the recipe will not be without dairy.
Nutella - If Nutella's not your thing, try this recipe with peanut butter, almond butter, cookie butter, or sun butter!
How to make this recipe
Step 1: Beat the heavy cream with an electric mixer using the whisk attachment until very soft peaks begin to form.
Step 2: Add in the Nutella and continue beating until stiff peaks form.
Recipe FAQs
It can last a few days if stored in the refrigerator, but when it's always best to make it as close to when it will be used as possible, especially since it only takes a couple minutes to whip up (pun intended)!
Whipped cream is simply heavy cream with air whipped into it to make it big and light and airy. There are many types of buttercream, but they are all generally a combination of butter and sugar so they are usually denser and are generally used for frosting on cakes or cupcakes.
Tips & Tricks
Tip #1: Avoid taking the heavy cream out of the fridge before you're ready to start whipping! The cream needs to be as cold as possible before whipping to ensure that it whips up into stiff peaks. You can even take it a step further and chill your bowl and beaters before whipping.
Tip #2: To test for soft peaks, dip your beater into the cream and pull straight up. If the mixture comes up and then flops over, that's a soft peak.
Tip #3: To test for stiff peaks, dip your beater straight down into the chocolate whipped cream and pull straight up. If the mixture stands straight up, that's a stiff peak.
Tip #4: This flavored whipped cream can be made without an electric mixer, but you will need a whisk and a strong arm! It will take a lot of whipping to get enough air in the mixture, but it's certainly doable!
Storage Tips
- Whipped cream should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- After a day or two it may start to get droopy, but will still taste great!

Putting this in coffee sounds divine! I think it would be hard to find something it wouldn't be delicious on! Waffles, pancakes, ice cream, everything!!

The Nutella turned the whipped cream into a grainy mash not at all like the consistency pictured. Where did I go wrong? I used cold heavy whipping cream.
Liz Pollio says
I'm honestly not sure what could have happened since there are no grainy ingredients in this recipe. If you added sugar or another ingredient with a grainy consistency, I have not tested the recipe with additional ingredients, but that could certainly be a cause. Nutella can also sometimes separate a bit. I don't imagine that would make it grainy, but you could try stirring the Nutella before adding it. Lastly is if either ingredient is expired, it may change in consistency. I hope this helps the next go round - please keep me posted how it goes!
