THIS POST CONTAINS DOG PHOTOS! I thought that might get your attention. My dog, Gizmo, has a birthday coming up at the end of the month. I love to celebrate his birthday by spoiling him with special birthday treats, most often homemade cupcakes, which I like to refer to as pupcakes! There are so many different dog-friendly cupcakes (though always check with your vet before giving your dog people-foods) and my dogs like them all. This particular recipe is for Peanut Butter Pumpkin Sweet Potato Pupcakes.

Looking for pumpkin recipes for humans? These Pumpkin Cheescake Cookies are always a winner!

Gizmo was an excellent taste tester!

My dogs love peanut butter, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin, so it was easy to pick the ingredients for this recipe. I want to be careful about not giving my dogs too much of anything that might not be great for them (again, please check with your vet) so I used whole wheat flour, 100% pure pumpkin, a real sweet potato that I pureed myself, and most importantly, I used peanut butter with one ingredient: peanuts.

I pureed the sweet potato in a food processor, but you can also probably buy baby food to get sweet potato that is already pureed. Also be sure that you're getting real pumpkin, and not pumpkin pie filling. The peanut butter can be tricky. Peanut butters can have a lot of sugar, salt, artificial sugars, etc. I'm not comfortable giving my dogs foods with lots of sugar and salt so I used Teddie All Natural Smooth Unsalted. I love to use Teddie because it's a local brand here in Massachusetts, but there are tons of peanut butters out there that only use peanuts.

Baxter has his eye on the Pupcake that I won't let him eat yet!

This recipe only needs a bowl and a spoon, and can be ready from start to finish in 20 minutes. It's always the right time to spoil your pups, and they will love these delicious Peanut Butter Pumpkin Sweet Potato Pupcakes which will be extra special because they're made with love!

Do you celebrate your dogs' birthdays? (Full disclosure: something always happens to remind me that Gizmo's birthday is coming up, but my other furbaby, Baxter, somehow always has an overlooked birthday. But don't worry, he's still plenty spoiled!!)

Yes! And my dogs loved them! Do you have any doggie recipes with banana’s?

Hi Heather, I'm so glad to hear your pups loved them! This is currently my only doggie recipe, but you could likely substitute some or all of the pumpkin puree or sweet potato puree with mashed banana. I have not tested this so I don't want to make any promises, but I think it would turn out okay!

My pup and I made these for his birthday and he loved them!! They smelled so good I had to try them too 😂 I made a few adjustments and they turned out great! I cut the recipe in half, didn't have sweet potato, and wanted to use up half of a leftover banana so I did a mix of pumpkin puree and mashed banana. Thanks for the delicious dog-friendly recipe!

Thanks so much, Kayla! It definitely makes a lot so it's smart to cut down the recipe if you don't have multiple pups! And I love how many dog-friendly substitutions there are - banana is a great one! I hope your pup loved them (and you did too!)

Thanks for sharing this recipe! My dog loved it and by cutting in in 1/4, it still produced great results and I didn't need to freeze as much ^_^ (she 7lbs, so it had to be a small batch).

Oh, I am so happy to hear that, Linda!! This recipe does make a lot so definitely smart to cut it down for a smaller pup!

    Hi, I'm Liz!

I started creating my own recipes when I realized that baking blogs usually shared complicated and time-consuming recipes that needed a lot of kitchen equipment and a lot of ingredients. When my grandma mentioned that I should write a cookbook, that inspired me to turn my super simple recipes into a blog. As much as I love to make these super simple recipes for my friends and family, I also love being able to share them with you!
